Winemaker's Notes

This is a deep, dark, intense wine full of black fruit aromas, baking spices and espresso. On the palate it exhibits flavors of blackberry compote, licorice and mocha. It is full bodied and has creamy, round textures that give it a long, lingering finish. 

Blend: 27% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Petite Sirah, 21% Zinfandel, 12% Syrah 12% Merlot, 3% Malbec, 3% Petit Verdot

Recommended serving temperature: 60 - 65F

Recommended food pairings:  Braised Beef Short Ribs, Beef Tenderloin, Brisket, Steak, Meatballs, Roasted Duck, Venison, Lamb

At Bootleg we pay tribute to the devotion and daring that inspired our forefathers: the winegrowing rogues, who smuggled vine cuttings from renowned French vineyards and replanted them in California to elevate American wine to world class status.

In their spirit, we embrace “unconstrained winemaking,” awarding our winemaker the freedom to create the ultimate expression of each vintage—outside the bounds of a given varietal, appellation, or winemaking tradition. Without rules or expectations comes the opportunity to redefine the game.

Though the recipe may change from year to year, Bootleg’s exuberant, bold and complex blends challenge convention while remaining anchored in celebrated vineyards throughout Napa and Sonoma.

Before joining Bootleg in 2016, Winemaker Kristy Melton held the role of Director of Winemaking at Napa Valley’s iconic Clos Du Val Winery, where her exceptional ability to craft modern wines of balance and elegance was widely credited for the winery’s reemergence as a leader in Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon production.

An El Paso, Texas native, Kristy graduated with a BS in Biology and Animal Science from Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas before going on to the University of California where she earned an MS in Viticulture and Enology in 2007. 

Honored to be named among Wine Enthusiast Magazine’s "Top 40 under 40 Tastemakers" as well as Drinks Business’ "Top 30 under 40 Winemakers to Watch," Kristy leverages her meticulous attention to detail to craft wines of structure, ripeness and balance.
